Our vision is of a Europe united in all its diversity.
To bring that political vision to fruition we pledge to be a democratic European federation that strictly adheres to the principle of subsidiarity.
Europe United stands not only for a union of Europeans, but for a union of all Europeans. We define a European to be any citizen of a European state, no matter the ethnicity or particular circumstances of that citizen.
Unity for us means all Europeans under one roof working together for a better tomorrow. That is key aspect of our vision.
Unity does not imply uniformity.
This party believes that the role of the institutions of a united Europe should not be only to guarantee the unity of Europe but also to protect and harness Europe’s diversity. Europe’s incredible potential is in the richness of its diversity and the internal competitive dynamism that arises from this diversity. Europe United believes that the purpose of the EU is to enhance and realise that potential. Bringing the many and varied voices of its Member States into a wonderfully rich, deep, and harmonious whole where each voice competes is both a challenge for the EU but one of its strengths.
No integration without representation. The people of Europe deserve institutions that represent their interests and that are directly accountable to them. Europe United believes that European citizens should have a say in decisions made at European level that impact their lives. Democracy is a fundamental principle of European states and that should also be so for the European Union. The power of the Union is derived from its citizens and its Member States and it should to serve the interests of its citizens and its Member States.
Federalism is the political realisation of “unity in diversity”. Federalism is the political expression of unity because it ensures that Europe speaks with one clear and unequivocal voice to best represent the interests of Europeans on the world stage. Problems such as global warming and international terrorism are far beyond the abilities of individual nation states to resolve.
Federalism is also the political expression of diversity since it bestows as much autonomy as possible to Member States while at the same time projecting a united front when necessary. This ensures Member States' ability to govern themselves in accordance with their desires thus encouraging them to reinforce their own cultures and traditions.
Subsidiarity is a principle which dictates that decisions should be taken as near their affects as is effective to do so. In essence this principle decentralises power as near as possible to the people of Europe.
Europe United believes that the principle of subsidiarity is an essential ingredient of any union of European countries. It is the best guarantee against a European federation which diminishes European diversity. By ensuring that decisions are taken as near to those affected as possible the principle of subsidiarity ensures the capacity of communities and Member States to govern themselves as they see fit. Yet by recognising that some decisions are most effectively taken at a level above that of the Member State - typically issues of global or continental significance - the principle allows a pan-European level of governance to operate efficiently and effectively.
The battle of European integration will be won or lost in the hearts and minds of European citizens. For all the distance it has covered in the last 50 years, the EU has failed to capture the imagination and gain the trust of its people. Despite its achievements the European Union remains an elitist construction, detached from the very people its existence is based on.
Europe United feel that the EU will never achieve its full potential unless it has its people at the engine, its citizens in the driver’s seat.
We need to bring the people at the heart of European integration process and the best way of achieving this is by involving them as much as possible in the decision making process.
The European Union needs citizens rather than subjects, active participants in policy-making rather than passive recipients of instructions.
The EU itself, its policy making procedures and the quality and effectiveness of its policies stand to gain by involving the people as much as possible.
Our goal is to create for the children of this great continent a strong, united, prosperous and peaceful Europe in line with our principles. A Europe of opportunity and hope for the future. A Europe whose best days are ahead of it.
We have a clear vision, sound principles and a worthy goal. We stand united to serve Europe and its citizens. Now is the hour for Europe to stand united, to renew its greatness, and fulfil its destiny as a force for reason and responsible action in this world.
Europe. You have your voice
